Two Stories of Award-Winning Custom Home Remodels in Santa Fe

by robwoods24

Our family is always so excited to be a part of Haciendas – A Parade of Homes. It showcases everything we represent: Santa Fe’s rich architectural history, beauty, and quality of living. This year, we were fortunate enough to feature two homes: 1133 East Alameda (home of interior designers Paul Rochford and Michael Violante’s of Violante & Rochford Interiors, and 2216 Wilderness Arroyo, Shane Woods’ home. Both homes received the award for “Best Craftsmanship” and 1133 East Alameda was recognized for “Best Historic Remodel.” These homes are two of our all-time favorite projects, and we loved sharing them with the community as part of this event.

Paul Rochford and Michael Violante’s Home – 1133 East Alameda

We were thrilled when our close interior designer friends, Paul and Michael, gave us the honor of remodeling their home. We’re big fans of their style. In fact, they’re the preferred interior designers for our own Woods build projects. They had a good sense of the finishes they wanted to use, but asked for our help to totally revamp their home by opening and lightening up the space, and bringing in more of their soft contemporary style. This was achieved by redesigning the entire existing floor plan, adding new square footage, replacing all the interior finishes and replacing and adding all new exterior doors and windows.

Their home is beautiful. It’s nestled in the core Santa Fe’s Historic Eastside and the exterior truly exemplifies the 1930s era historic Santa Fe style. As a Contributing Building to the Santa Fe Historic District, its primary facade, which faces the street, must maintain its historical integrity. The judges selected this home as “Best Historic Remodel” because of the lengths we went to retain the building’s historical integrity, while still being able to completely modernizing the interior resulting in a perfect blend of old and new.

We restructured the interior to better align with Paul and Michael’s contemporary aesthetic. We brought in soft contemporary light, diamond plaster, white cabinets, white washed floors, more windows and skylights, and featured their beautiful gardens.

Shane’s Home – 2216 Wilderness Arroyo

Our very own Shane Woods (my brother) enlisted the team to remodel his personal home. The easiest part about this project is that we already knew his style, but the easy part ended there.

This sprawling, 7,000 square foot home perched at the top of a mountain overlooking the city required a massive facelift. It was a challenging and extensive remodel that took a year of work. We constructed completely new spaces: master bedroom and bathroom, master bathroom deck, living room, wine room, dining room, entertainment room, and redesigned the existing floor plan to make it more livable. We even created a separate wing upstairs for the kids. Huge new windows and expansive portals frame breathtaking views filling the home with natural light.

What’s Next

We love Haciendas – A Parade of Homes– not for the awards but because we love to share our work with Santa Fe and visitors from all over the world. It gives us a chance to connect with the community and share our passion with a city that has always embraced creativity, beauty, and quality. We hope to see you next year!
